World Anvil alternative

Fable Tracker and World Anvil

A large worldbuilding platform with articles, maps, timelines and tools for running tabletop campaigns.

What World Anvil is

World Anvil is a long-running worldbuilding platform. It is built around a wide toolbox: articles, maps, timelines, and features for game masters and campaigns. If you want one place for a very broad set of worldbuilding and tabletop tools, it is a serious option.

Fable Tracker is a private writing studio and lore wiki for novelists and worldbuilders. You draft chapters, build your world’s history, and link the two together.

Your manuscript lives beside your lore

Fable Tracker is a writing studio first. Chapters, scenes, word goals and version history sit next to the wiki, and a [[mention]] in a chapter links straight to the lore entry.

Smaller, calmer, aimed at fiction

There are fewer tools, and every one of them serves a writer drafting a story: a timeline, a relationship graph, a family tree, maps with pins that link to lore.

Free to write, and your files are yours

Writing, lore and export are free. Download a whole world as plain Markdown files at any time, and keep it in any editor.

When World Anvil may suit you better

  • You run tabletop role-playing campaigns and want tools made for game masters.
  • You want a very large toolbox in one platform, or an established community around it.

Moving over, or trying both

Fable Tracker imports Markdown, plain text and Word (.docx) files for chapters, and exports everything as plain files, Word and EPUB, so moving never locks you in.

Writing, lore and export are free, and paid plans only add capacity. See the plans.
