Kanka alternative

Fable Tracker and Kanka

A campaign and world database for tabletop role-playing, with entities linked by relations.

What Kanka is

Kanka is a database-style tool for organising a campaign or setting: characters, locations, items and the relations between them. It is popular with game masters who want to track a large cast and keep session notes.

Fable Tracker is a private writing studio and lore wiki for novelists and worldbuilders. You draft chapters, build your world’s history, and link the two together.

A place to write the book, not only track it

Fable Tracker includes a full writing studio: chapters, a formatting toolbar, find and replace, style suggestions, focus mode, word goals and streaks, with the lore one click away.

Lore that reads like a wiki

Entries are written in Markdown with links between them, backlinks, a timeline and revision history, and can be published as a public wiki when you are ready.

Export without a catch

Take a world with you as Markdown files, Word, or EPUB for a manuscript.

When Kanka may suit you better

  • Your main need is running a tabletop campaign with structured entity types and session tools.
  • You want an established tool shared with the rest of your gaming group.

Moving over, or trying both

Fable Tracker imports Markdown, plain text and Word (.docx) files for chapters, and exports everything as plain files, Word and EPUB, so moving never locks you in.

Writing, lore and export are free, and paid plans only add capacity. See the plans.
