Obsidian for writers and worldbuilders

Fable Tracker and Obsidian

A local-first Markdown notes app with links between notes.

What Obsidian is

Obsidian is a popular notes app that stores plain Markdown files on your own computer and links notes together. It is extendable with a large number of community plugins.

Fable Tracker is a private writing studio and lore wiki for novelists and worldbuilders. You draft chapters, build your world’s history, and link the two together.

Nothing to set up

Fable Tracker works in the browser, with a writing studio, goals, history and a wiki ready to use, and no plugins to choose or keep up to date.

Made for a story's structure

Chapters, scenes, manuscripts, a timeline, maps and a character relationship graph are first-class, not add-ons.

Still your files

Download a world as Markdown files with linked notes, so you can open it in Obsidian or anything else.

When Obsidian may suit you better

  • You want your notes stored only on your own computer.
  • You like tuning a setup with plugins and themes.

Moving over, or trying both

Fable Tracker imports Markdown, plain text and Word (.docx) files for chapters, and exports everything as plain files, Word and EPUB, so moving never locks you in.

Writing, lore and export are free, and paid plans only add capacity. See the plans.
