Finding your way around

Fable Tracker is a place to write your stories and keep the worlds they live in. Here is what is where.

Writing

  • Open a world, then Write, and start a manuscript. Add chapters, reorder them, copy them, join them, or cut one in two at the cursor.
  • The editor saves as you type, and again before you leave. Earlier versions are kept under History in each chapter.
  • Set a word target for a chapter or the whole book, and a daily goal, and watch your streak and calendar fill in.
  • Use the toolbar for formatting and find and replace, the Σ button for reading ease and repeated words, and the ? button for every shortcut.
  • Chapter notes stay beside the page and never appear in the book or an export.
  • Import a draft from a text or Markdown file, and download the book as Word, EPUB, Markdown or text. “Read the whole book” opens a print-ready page.

Lore

  • Every place, person, creature or idea can be an entry. Put entries inside each other to build a hierarchy.
  • Write [[Entry name]] in a chapter or an entry to link to it. A name with no entry shows a “Create it” link in the editor.
  • Give an entry a year and it joins the timeline. Connect entries with words like “ruler of” or “sibling of”.
  • Search finds lore and chapter text together. “Surprise me” opens any entry, which is a good way to find what needs more work.

Privacy and sharing

  • Manuscripts start private. Lore entries are for members unless you choose otherwise.
  • A world can have a public wiki with its own timeline. Only entries you mark public are shown, to anyone.
  • You can download a whole world as plain Markdown files in one ZIP at any time. Your writing is always yours.
